From the rather uneventful first month of the year, February was a totally different energy of new experiences.
This is the first time I’ve done Family Photography. My first client is my long time friend from college, Alex. My style of photography is more on Lifestyle Photography. That is a mix of Documentary and Traditional. Directed, but not overly posed AND not everyone has to look at the camera. I took inspiration from Elena Blair’s style. And I think the way she sees her art is very similar to how I see mine.
Following this shoot is a casual Baptism shoot for my other college friend, Nescy. I wasn’t able to capture a lot of photos—sometimes life, in this case, stomach problems, get in the way. Nonetheless, I was able to capture a number of great photographs which would otherwise would have been half-decent mobile phone photos.
Lastly, this month I did my first wedding gig with teammates: Ryann, Rado and Stacey. It was absolutely exhausting. I was up at 6AM, at the meet up at 7:15, and got home 1AM the next day! Absolutely crazy but FUN!
I wasn’t expecting this experience to be a full on TRABAHO since I came in as a 4th shooter with, what I thought was, minimal responsibilities. But I had to run around with a 3kg monopod-camera-setup. Run up stairs, run from one side of the church to the other, shoot from morning till night. By 7PM I was exhausted and had to sit it out. The rest of my team did the rest of the reception footage.
After the whole thing was done and I was able to review my videos at home, I was disappointed because I felt I didn’t do a good job for the first time. There was a lot of videos with bad framing and poor composition. Only to find out later on that much of my roll was used for the final edit.
WHEW.. February passed by and so many things happened! I am so grateful that I was able to do these few number of shoots that taught me a lot about myself and my methods. I am most grateful for a healthy body and being able to meet the demands of the job!!
